I blinked and found myself in June. Half way through the year already and with so many delightful memories under my wing – I thought it was time to share a few. These are a few of my favourite things in June…. enjoy x
Mad Men – the most amazing series known to man and then some. Don Draper is one to swoon over for sure and the fashion – oh the fashion. I have actually watched the entire series before when it was on the tellybox but decided to start them all over again. Whilst I am sewing away, listing and measuring vintage for my shop – Monica Valentine Vintage – it is on in the background. I can’t help but be sucked into the sassiness of the sixties. Mad Men is set primarily in the 1960s, at the fictional advertising agency Sterling Cooper located on Madison Avenue in New York City. The plot focuses on the business of the agencies as well as the personal lives of the characters, regularly depicting the changing moods and social mores of the United States through the 1960s. I love historical and period dramas/series purely for the fashion but Mad Men has my heart hooked line and sinker.
Gregory Porter “Hey Laura” – I could gush and gush about Gregory Porter all day long. When I am listening to Jazz.fm on the radio – he is literally their most favourite artist and I get to listen to all the special edition and hidden tracks as they love him on that station! It’s not a bad thing though, his voice is to die for. I particularly love the way his baritone catches the sun on my favourite track “Hey Laura”. The way I interpreted this track was how you feel when you are so restless and cannot think straight – that you just have to have answers. When your relationship is driving you nuts and you just do not know what to do for the best and you have to call that someone to try and put your mind at rest. I love the simplicity of the opening lines – “Hey Laura, it’s me. Sorry but I had to ring your doorbell so late” and the complexity of “That the rivers of your love flow up hill to me” – lyrics speak volumes and these swam into my soul.
What makes me smile:
Sunshine coloured gerberas are lighting up my living room right now. Yellow is definitely my favourite colour – it just makes me happy! I love flowers, they make everything homey and remind me that the gift of life is not guaranteed but there to be enjoyed. I bought these ones myself – because who needs a man to buy you flowers when Tesco’s has them on offer.
